The theme-specific custom styles

Editing your theme CSS file (as detailed in this article) is not the preferred method for changing your theme style.

Instead, wherever possible, use the tools provided at your Aarcade admin area per How do I edit my theme's styles and options?

Depending upon your theme, you may have Theme custom styles available in your CSS code that will allow you to make quick changes to some of the styling specific of your theme.

To see if you have Theme custom styles available for your theme, locate your CSS edit controls and check for a Theme custom styles section - as detailed in the support article What is my Big Cartel CSS file?

The styles in this section are clearly labelled with comments to indicate what they are for. For example, the Uptown theme displays a static “tree menu” when your navigate to subcategories and subpages. In the Theme custom styles section you will find the following style group:

/* Tree Menu - font styles
** edit as needed */
.tree-nav {
	font-size: 13px;
	font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
	font-weight: 300;
	font-style: italic;
}

If we wanted to remove the italic style for the tree menu, we would delete the relevant line as follows:

/* Tree Menu - font styles
** edit as needed */
.tree-nav {
	font-size: 13px;
	font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
	font-weight: 300;
}

Always click the Done button and then the Save link at the top of the customisation area when you have finished editing your CSS code.
